pardon the following brainstorm.

i can't figure out what it is exactly i want to do. it seems like every career search resource i read emphasizes taking the time to pinpoint your skills - which seems like such a difficult task. but i haven't even really tried. so what on earth is it that i'm good at? well, keeping things organized. i'm a master of clean house and perfectly filed papers. i'm good at talking with people. communication skills i definately have - especially breaking down and explaining things to people they might not otherwise understand. that was something i hit on when i was an exchange student, i realized i had this weird aptitude to communicate with and explain the use of the english language to people who knew it only as a second language. i could also explain cultural slang and activities in terms that people from other places would understand. i can talk on the phone for hours on end, and i can write pretty well too. i enjoy this whole blogging thing, and people seem to get what i write about. i'm good at editing papers, and taking different sections that people have written and combining them into a complete piece. so skills would be organization, communication, writing, editing...

i keep thinking that maybe i should give a shot at being an administrative assistant. it sounds like something that i would be overqualified for. but on the other hand, if i were overqualified, i'd be really good at it. so i could work in an office or something. i know executive secretaries get paid loads of cash. or i've read about those people that are professional organizers. i saw them on oprah of all places, you hire someone to come in and get your life straightened out. i could totally do that. (http://www.napo.net - who knew?)

i'm going to go talk to someone tomorrow in the career services office. maybe they can help me get all this nonsense straightened out. i feel so silly going and applying for jobs when i'm not even sure what it is i want to do. ahh. job search anxiety.

today i slept until 1:30 to the pitter-patter of the rain outside, and dreamt about tornados and being a super hero (again). to compensate for laziness i am sitting with the ear piece of my cell phone in place, so i will feel important, and look like (to my cat) that i might be expecting a serious call. in addition to this i have been researching the crap multi-national companies that i hope will give me a job (pretty please) and i also taped a fortune cookie fortune that says "you will be rewarded for you efforts" to my monitor. efforts thus far have included - lamely searching the ou career listing page, getting myself reinstated as a part-time bartender for a local catering company, calling a friend to see about a job that i won't get, and telling my dad about how wonderfully busy and motivated i am. while i wander around my pristinely clean and organized apartment at 2 in the afternoon, still in my pj's.

such is the life of a recent college grad.

job? anyone? please?

whew what a day. let's see what all is new. i quit la baguette, and i started a new gig babysitting this really cute 5 year old named ned. he's english, and has the greatest accent ever. didn't get call backs from those two jobs, bum deal, but do have an interview out at the big conference center on highway 9, as a conference coordinator. pays about $16 an hour. not bad at all, plus don't have to move.. wish me luck.

weekend is looking up. tonight is a mod martini party hosted by lindsay and jordan. always fun to get to dress up like twiggy! tomorrow night is ms. haefele's birthday celebration at the vista. good times, good times.

otherwise - not much new to report. the kitty is well, i am well, my new bike is well, all is well :)

love.

everyone who has seen me in the last week has been informed of the following, but just in case, and for those i love who are far away...

it's been a freakin' awesome week. i had two job interviews, with my top two choices of places to work in OKC, and one of them even called me back for another interview on monday! boo-yah. so hopefully yours truly will work soon for either the best alternative radio station to hit the plains ever, or a groovy independant newspaper. i'd be selling advertising, not the greatest thing, but giving an opportunity for local businesses to put their name out by way of the ads, and then make money to support the station or the paper, both of which i have the highest respect for.

go kate go.

in other news, my friend dick of flea market fame, he's my brother's-wife's-dad (say that three times fast) gave me a neat bike for free that he had laying around! i took it in to miller's to have the seat raised up, and they told me its a '90 or '91 schwinn ladies cruiser. with baskets on the back and everything. score.

curtis, this one is for you. the half acre has officially shut down. awww.. poor tom. read about it here.

last night i went up to the new green door to catch the mix tape club's tv theme song party, featuring my fav band, the artists formerly known as the pistol arrows. they will perhaps soon be having a website... they sang the reading rainbow song. it rocked my world. but you don't have to take my word for it...

in closing, i would like to say how awesome the okc scene is becoming. don't complain about nothing to do. grab a gazette, check out okclive, or the opolis, and DO SOMETHING NEW. now. everyone!

home again home again jiggedy job
(to be said in sing-song voice)

loooong drive today. spent the weekend in illinois with dad and step-mom. drove to step-sister's house, observed her obnoxious children, played with her adorable dog, and went to see her husband's football team play a game. eastern illinois university, division two team. pretty decent game. the defensive line knew what was up - three turn-over/recovered fumbles whatever-its-called. where they steal the ball from the other team. and they won 27-0. they played this team from california university, but its in pennsylvania. the city of california, pennsylvania. california university of pennsylvania.

what?

after that we drove to southern illinois to visit my grandma. that was pretty cool, haven't seen her since i was in chicago about 4 years ago. she's in an assisted living center, has a nice little apartment. she can't get around much. has to use a walker. we brought her a peaches 'n cream shake from sonic, and she really liked it. it's a little sad to see her, her memory is going. she asked me four times what i'm up to (recent college grad, searching for work). but she's still kickin'. in the lobby of the center they had this little cage with finches, canaries, and doves for the old people to come and watch. that's a pretty nice idea. i'm glad i got to see her.

and speaking of work, I have an interview on wednesday with citadel communications (see previous entry). they actually called me! so maybe kate won't be jobless for much longer, but i ain't getting my hopes up.

p.s. having to share a hotel room with your parents, and sleep on a rollaway, is not fun. not having enough money to get your own darn room, also not fun.

ta-ta for now.
