anybody still out there?
i went for a walk yesterday when i was feeling kind of down (two points to me for getting off my ass instead of wallowing in it). it takes me about 30 minutes to get to center center philly where the posh folks live (a la houses from the late 18th century). i was walking up a street, and i looked up to discover a bubble floating about 10 feet up in the air. just a random soap bubble, like a kid would blow with a bubble wand. but the thing was, there were no children in sight. so where did this bubble come from?
i followed it for almost a BLOCK before it disappeared into someone's balcony. it was such a nice thing to see when i was feeling down, and i smiled.
i was on my way home from a bike ride tonight, and i was struck by a thought that i have often heard in the past, but am now experiencing first-hand. how is it that in a metropolitan area of 5 million plus people, a person can still feel so alone? i moved downtown four weeks ago and its like completely starting over. i still have a few connections, but not nearly as many as i expected to have after being here for a year and half.
the job is going well. i'm super busy, and dealing with lots of random issues due to budget constraints and cranky people. but i'm workin' it nonetheless, and challenged, and it is so wonderful to feel useful for a change. plus my boss isn't a cranky bitch who is gone all the time! ha ha!
tomorrow night i have to babysit a marketing information table at the academy, we have a production of EVITA passing through town.
and yes, they spell it with all capital letters.
don't cry for me, argentina.
other recent accomplishments:
i am completely moved into my apartment, including having successfully set up internet and other utilities.
i had my bike repaired and can now zip through the streets of philly dodging cabs at will. i've had one angry driver honk at me so far.
and...
drumroll please...
I SOLD MY GODDAMN CAR.
that is the best news ever. pedestrian life is bliss. i hope your life is likewise well!
