One of my beau's side entrepreneurial endeavors is selling books on the internet. He is an enthusiastic patron of any location offering books for sale super cheap, so he can buy them for $1 and sell them to some obscure professor at Harvard for $75. I was at first skeptical, but now I've seen the order forms and helped him package the tomes, and you wouldn't believe what the bargain bin at Sooner Textbooks can get you. So last week we were wrapping up a daily shipment before going to get some Pepe's, and one of the orders off of half.com was for a self-help book on obsessive-compulsive disorder. As he was going over the order form, he told me, "I remember once selling an OCD help-book, I think this is the first time I've seen one without meticulous notes all over the margins."
Because some things really just have no cure.

Plans in the works for an international thanksgiving extravaganza... (read: international students will help me decorate my mom's otherwise lonesome home). Lunch today with Sofie at Plaid Cafe was yummy. They such nice tomato soup there, and friendly people. Does a body good. Otherwise, life is well, no new stories to tell. I ordered a new phone yesterday that will serve me much better then the soon-to-be retired 51whatever it is I have that doesn't even have keyguard. No more random bottom-of-the-purse calls to Aaron, will he miss them? It has been awhile. T Mobile is hoped to be better then VoiceStream. We'll see how the new 12 month service agreement pans out.... otherwise, i'm glad i've found someone worthwhile to while away the hours with. Last night driving to his house I told him I was so glad that I had finally found someone with whom I could verbalize all my internal dialogues and not feel like a complete weirdo. We will be weirdos together, in sweat pants armed with acoustic guitars. Us with our whiskey, we will take over the world.

Friday night I was officially propositioned. This stems from Mathilde's desire to play the touchscreen game at the bar, but shyness to go and inquire if she could be next to play. Some suitably skeezy guy was there tapping away at it with his friends, and after a few minutes drifted off into beer and conversation, but remained sitting in front of the game. So as I leaned on the opposite side of the bar chatting with Nate, I would throw him the occassional eyebrows up "hey you finished with that game?" glance. and did he read that right?
WRONG.
My inquiring looks were clearly an open invitation for him to stroll around the two corners seperating us, cross behind Nate, and then me, while casually running the right-hand index finger across my exposed lower back before settling comfortably on my exposed left-hand side with an arm (barely) around my waist (I was, of course, considerably taller). I can't remember the exact course of dialogue that followed, and I maintained remarkably fabulous composure. except for crawling skin, which he didn't seem to notice. it was something along the lines of a "hey *descriptive adjective alongs the lines of "baby" "cutie" "sweetheart"*, how 'ya doin'? so my girlfriend sent me over here to ask you...." ... if I would like to patake of a little 'menage-a-trois' with them. i was of course "very flattered, but no thank you" and even though it was pretty gross to put up with the impromptu pawing, it did at least give me a funny story to tell...
fire when ready.

I received an email from exxon today that was just impersonal enough to be insulting :) It was hard not to laugh, being that I have to be respectably quiet here in the prestigious business computer lab. The guy two seats down, in a suit, is talking on his cell phone about a football game and losing accounts.
Dear Lord help me, I don't want to be a yuppie.
Last night I was watching Fight Club with Rick, and there's a scene where Edward Norton's character is sitting in some business meeting with everyone acting very fake and cheery, while he is spitting out blood into a kleenex. The fake people look like such tools. And one guy is discussing some icon concept, and I got so scared, because I knew exactly what he was saying. We're talking like all the cheeseball marketing terms he was using. Shit I will likely be spouting out in 9 months. I don't want to be that icon guy. I don't want to be the one standing in front of the meeting, with everyone dozing off and thinking - oh here goes that boring marketing girl again.
Here's what I want to do - I want to find a job I enjoy. I like designing things, I like organizing things. So I'm thinking I'll end up somewhere as a store manager. Maybe an Albertson's, or an HEB grocery down in Texas. I could move out west and find a Trader Joe's. That's the kind of shit I want to do... running something useful, selling products people actually need at realistic un-bloodsucking prices. Taking all my little jars of mayonnaise and pickles and making them look nice and appealing. It's such a fine line, between being a good little consumer and business-minded individual.. and wanting to scream at the world to take all their materialistic tendencies and shove them where the sun doesn't shine. We really don't need twenty different varieties of bread. We don't need tv dinners. We don't need so much of the shit out there that I will likely end up selling someday! Because I will need a job.
Next semester, I'm going to take a 4000-level independant study under one of my fav marketing profs and see if I can't find something useful to do in this world that I can feel good about COMPLETELY.

So what's up kids! It is raining today, which isn't much fun when you're on a bike with nothing but a hoodie between your body and the raging oklahoma winds. I'm wearing my Robert-esque armor, jeans + hoodie + blue bandana. I got a 29/40 on the retailing presentation, :P on that. Yesterday I completely slept through both my classes, and lunch, and a better part of the afternoon before my dad and my stepmom came and took me to Kendall's for dinner. Chicken friend steak, yum yum. I didn't like being all weird and sleepy, thanks be today giving me mandatory appointments that drug my ass out from under the covers. And boy did I sleep like a baby last night, after rum 'n cokes at the Mont. Good God is that bar loud! Why couldn't I live a block from the Library instead? What with Rick working at JJ's Pizza, that poor boy is over-exposed to the Greek community of our fair city. No more bleached blonde in tight jeans if you please..
(wait, i have bleached blonde hair, and i wear tight jeans...)
Foiled again.

in international marketing i have the highest grade in the class. that is such a nice feeling! i love it when i'm feeling well and then can do well in school. rock.
exxon-mobile never "contacted me within seven days," so we can assume that my relationship with the baby seals just wasn't meant to be! speaking of, will i ever remember to register with career services? i miss more opportunities by the day...
they're renovating upstairs. this means they have been banging steadily on things for upwards of ten days. now the real question is, just WHAT is it that they are banging on? seriously. hammers steadily going for over a week. don't you think whatever is it would have been firmly attached long before now? it must be their own sensibility they're working on. endless job.
sofie invited me to carve pumpkins tomorrow but i don't think i can cause dad will be in town and we're supposed to hang out. dinner or something. free food beats pumpkins, a sad tale, i will have to carve mine all by myself. they have been patiently waiting all cleaned out for about a week now. i can't decide on the facial distribution. happy and sad, or sane and crazy, or nice and scary? pumpkin faces haunt my sleep.
speaking of, last night i dreamt upon graduation from OU i was instated as principal of my old high school. no one would talk to me because i was so young (the students thought i was one of them), and all the faculty resented my youth, not to mention the bitter vice principals - played by my childhood band director mr. smith and an old neighbor from my mom's street - who were angry because THEY as vp's hadn't been promoted when the previous principal took off. bitter school board hired young, hip me instead. one of the vp's had a nervous breakdown when i tried to speak kindly to him, asking him if he remembered when I used to come and play with his daughter, and apologizing for taking his job... and then one of the old bitter secretaries had to come and calm him down with a vicious "NOW see what you've done" directed my way. ouch. one of those dreams where nothing goes right and you wake up all frantic like you've forgotten something you're supposed to do,
with the hammers going *bang bang bang* overhead.

To whom it may concern:
I am alive and well. :) Three exam hit on Friday, Monday, and Tuesday. Will she follow up with another 100+ score in International Marketing? Ah, folks, only time will tell. Today Eric taught me Here Comes the Sun (beatles) as means of furthur expanding my illustrious finger-picking ability. Now should anyone feel so inclined, I could use a copy of the song on tape or CD. It's off the Abbey Road album.
And what else is new? I drug Avi to a pistol arrows show last Friday, he very unfourtunately did not catch them at their best as the sound equipment at Windy City was a joke. This Friday at Belle Isle Brewery is hoped to be an improvement. I invited Brian (bachelor #1). So maybe we'll have a 3rd date. And have no fear, for my Norman beau (bachelor #2) is still alive and well. Two at once? Why, yes! Thank you sir, may I have another...
I went to the game on Saturday and froze my wet ass off. It was great, we romped 'em! My neice loved the parade. She rode on my shoulders until I collapsed from exhaustion, and there were luckily mass amounts of candy being thrown from the floats to revive me. Swedish Sofie did not appear to have the best of times, the merits of American football seem to be beyond the foreign kiddos. They try though, they really do.
Mary loaned me some CS Lewis books, and one of the enchanted forest chronicles that was apparently abandoned by Anna. Her loss, the dragon stories rule! Mary and I had a nice chat, and she fixed me a salami samich. Thanks, Mary.
Back to reading up on COMESA. African economic forecasting is fascinating stuff. Sionara!

words can not express the beauty of that canyon, or the wonderful friendly people who greet you everywhere you go, or jumping between steaming hot tubs and ice cold pools on a balmy night because that's the way they swim in scandanavia...
lovely lovely lovely.
i could get used to that nice I-40 drive. Santa Rosa sunsets... the balloons we saw gracefully soaring above Albuquerque... trains racing across the Arizona plains. the man at the gas station in tucumcari gave susannah a postcard for free because "she's from finland!"
I wanted to stand with my arms spread wide on that rock that jutted above bright angel trail FOREVER.
there are nice new blue eyes following me around my apartment, and strumming on my guitar. it's nice to have a warm body to sleep with on the cold october nights. we went to the mont last night and talked for hours over jack daniels. read the random books. argued about music. last week he helped me study for my retailing midterm for 4 hours and i made an 88 even only with 3 hours of sleep.

dear lord i just played tony hawk for four hours. this is worse then being addicted to the sims. at least this time avi doesn't argue with me for playtime like donny always would.. (ah nostalgia)
i play with the girl skater, surprise surprise :)
i play with the girl skater, surprise surprise :)
Weekend Highlights
new Patsy Cline and New Order cd's by way of CD Zone. They didn't have any Silver Jews, but surely they can't be that hard to find.
playing Tony Hawk on Avi's gamecube... I'm good at video games when the boys let me play.
sleeping in a lot.
shopping at Ross with Mathilds and Natsuko - $90 yielded seven new shirts, tights, two headbands, and some sunglasses.
eating a big cookie at the mall.
playing drums far far too fast.
sleeping in a lot.
talking to my neice on the phone.
Drums are tricky! That whole independant off-setting of the feet is not an easy task. Reprogramming the neuro-something something as Adam so eloquently put it... cheers to that. I wonder if I'll have another? Guitar and drum lessons together presents quite a daunting, not to mention expensive, task. They have the neatest electronic drums at Brook Mayes.
I hope Brian calls me soon.. he's supposed to be back from Colorado on Monday or Tuesday night. It sucks we won't get to hang out before I depart on my own westward journey, but talking is good. That's the cutest thing ever when a boy asks if it would be ok for him to call you. And it's also fun to tell him you won't "have time" to go out, but you can talk. Hehehe power! I like him a lot so far. Here's hoping.
Start your engines
This will be a busy week. Have to give a 30 minute Location Analysis presentation on Tuesday, then have the hour long Exxon-Mobile interview and a Management exam Wednesday, and then a Retailing exam on Thursday, after which we'll take off for Albuquerque. I'll get my four hours of driving time out of the way first I think. Then I can ride and enjoy the scenery. I can't remember the last time I visited New Mexico! Wee...
Wish me luck kids.

allllllmost done almost done almost done almostd one almostdo ne alomostdon e almostdonealmostdonealmostdonealmostdone !
after three hours of reading and typing meaningless facts relating to Pepsi-Cola North American I am ALMOST DONE with this ridiculous assignment! Dontcha just love Marketing Management!
ALMOST DONE!
Tomorrow's list 'o to-do's:
1. Go to class. Participate in meaningless discussions on corporate policy.
2. Meet with Promotions Group to complete Monday's assignment.
3. Spend two hours in formal interviews with some random kid's who want to study abroad next spring (which makes me laugh, am I really such a good judge of choosing likely candidates?) - hah I read back over my post last October when I had to participate in said interview!
4. Call Adam and schedule the drum banging time.
5. Dance around living room in face of insanity...
6. Study...
7. find a nice unsuspecting companion to go and drink some vodka after I'm done with everything, midnight-ish.
Anyone interested in beng my lucky 7 friend? (and maybe seeing who is playing the Deli?) Call, I likely won't see the comments...
p.s. KAREN AND GOLDBUG WE MUST CARVE PUMPKINS!!!

My cup runeth over (... polluting beautiful alaskan waters?)
Sooo who is badass?
The guy from Exxon-Mobile called Career Services to make sure that *I* was on his interview schedule when he's on campus next week. I met this guy once for 3 minutes at the career fair, one in a huge line of students, and I'm not even registered with Career Services. Guess that resume looks pretty good... insert happy kate shimmy *here*!
And the baby seals would like you to note:
not that i'm particularly thrilled by the prospect of working for a global petroleum corporation - considering i think everyone on the planet should sell their cars and buy a bike or take the bus, and serious qualms i have about the globalization of industry (don't GET me started, pal) but it would be a good jumping off point, with possibilities of working in London, plus someone liked my resume, and that is just such nice warm fuzzy justification.
Madame Chairman, I'd like to introduce Ambassador King from the United States
how about the department of state as a foreign services officer? oOOooOooo the possibilities...

It don't mean a thing if it ain't got that
swing. serotonin swings. Lo5an made mention of it in a post, and I was thinking what living proof I am of that concept. I wish I had a better understanding of why I have such freakish up and down moods. At least I'm coming to terms with the fact that they're not the end of the world, they just mean I have to go home sometimes before I impale some poor unsuspecting sorority chick over one of those spikey fence posts surrounding the library roof construction. (do they ever stop whispering!) Sometimes I could care less about other people, and then other times I just want to shoot everyone. On site. That's bad, because I'm trained to shoot, and am really good at it :) (so back off, jacko!)
But only sometimes. Now for instance, I am in a pretty good mood. Partially because I got a nice little email asking me how my weekend was, and partially because I helped Horacio with something (nice French boy from Clermont-Ferrand, he's in my Promotions work group) and partially because I just don't really feel worried about anything. What a nice feeling! Someone was recently telling me about some herbal anti-anxiety supplement, Hava or something like that? I should look into it. Then I could feel cool and good more then less of the time. Good is nice. Nice is good. Anxiety is bad.
2 of the 5 on the to-do list have been completed. Chapters have been read. Next week is a presentation, Management exam, Retailing exam, and then lots and lots and lots of driving. I get to listen to Susannah talk, she's a gorgeous Finnish girl who has been living in London and has the cutest accent ever. Ever! Exchange students are fun. Woo and a drum lesson this weekend! I get to bang on things!
Rock!
