want to see something sick and sad? go to the ou helpdesk page, and read their hilarious excuses for why the email server has been down for two days.
sad
sad
sad
.
Goldbug's life philosophy:
1) get enough to eat.
2) get plenty of sleep.
3) learn things.

I AM 14% GEEK.

I wanna be a geek. But I'm not. Why would
I even want to be one. Do I think it's fun?
I should try writting an online test application at 1
am in my underwear.

Take the GEEK Test at Fuali.com!

(my goodness that test was a big fat waste of time.)
I'm leaving for Sweden on January 6. And talk of nightmarish plane connections and layovers...
whoever heard of direct flights? Not when you're flying with a "student ticket."

Oklahoma City - Memphis - Detroit - Amsterdam - Copenhagen...
and then a train to Lund.

15 hours on different planes. My lord I will be tired! I'll get in Lund on Monday morning... the official "arrival" day. And if they try and get me to attend any bullshit orientation things, I will punch them in the face. Because as soon as I get my little key to my little dorm room I'm going to go and sleep for about 3 days.
And then when I wake up I will be in EUROPE and there will be nowhere to go but up. Unpacking, and then up.

Now it's off to shop for laptops and digital cameras. Hooray!

good weekend, continued.
Friday night I got dressed up all pretty... I wore a dress... and I went to the deli. By myself, so the first thing I did was buy a pack of cigarettes. Shame on me, first time smoking in 3 weeks. So anywho I saw my fun friends Juan and Terri, and I made the very silly mistake of informing them that "I want to get drunk!" They kind of dote on me as their long-lost little sister or something. They're very nice to me. So after I finished my two beers... I was handed a crown and coke. and then a mind eraser. and then a shot of jager, and then a shot of something-with-kahlua.
I weigh 118 pounds.
so I was SMASHED.
and I danced a lot and apparently got two phone numbers... i found them the next morning in my jacket pocket.
And then they took me to a party where I keep taking swigs out of jimmy's bottle of so-co, and I think I smoked something else too. hmm.
I lost my cell phone twice in the front yard, and fell down once in the kitchen, and once next to eric's car. I don't even quite remember where I was most of the time... and then (GOD BLESS HIM) eric drove me home. I sloppily kissed him on the cheek and stumbled upstairs. I called Robert and then fell down and passed out in the hallway. That's why I have a bump on my head now. and after I woke up I spent about 45 minutes crooning softly to myself... "oh I drank too much.. too much. i drank too much"
then I took some aspirin and passed out.. and missed the first half of the nebraska game the next morning. GRRR

moral of the story:
my god I love the pistol arrows.
good weekend
but now am not feeling so well, not quite sure why. anxious and restless.
i will go climbing tonight hopefully... and that will make me feel better. nothing much else seems to lately. especially when i'm by myself! but i can't be with people all the time... goodness.
snap out of it!
*smack*
where did i go.

My moment in the sun is complete...
I really hate giving presentations. In the business college, that's all you ever do. Presentations and multiple choice tests. Both of course really reflecting how well you know your shit. (sarcasm.) What a joke!

Now home, skipping the 2nd half of class... and feeling drained. So much to do but not necessairily that can be done now while it's fresh on my mind. Next to the post office to complete my passport app, then to give blood, and then...? Who knows. Food perhaps. Good company maybe, and enjoy the pretty afternoon outside somewhere.

Nightmares about traveling. Losing luggage, arguing with ticket attendents who don't speak English, showing up at school with no room saved for me... being kicked out onto the snowy streets of Lund. Oh joy. Boy right now I just want to curl up and forget I ever wanted to study abroad. But later on I will be happy again... excited and ready to get the hell out of Norman. I found out today... scholarship from the bus college will cover my plane ticket expenses.

Plans tonight to head to the deli...bounce around to the pistol arrows. Most likely alone as I've been tossed out of the loop of my regular social circle. No one's fault but my own, but still hurts. Went last night to visit the punk rockers, and left after 20 minutes. Were those people really who I used to hang out with? There was nothing to say and nothing to do, I was choked by the boredom. So I came home and did laundry and watched a movie all by my lonesome. I should get used to being by myself because soon I will be surrounded by all new faces with no one to hang out with! My goodness I'm in a down mood this morning. Here's to hoping things pick up...

maybe there is someone out there somewhere who can cheer me up. but do they want to? that is the eternal question.

where is my x-ie when i need her?
it's been over two weeks...
i miss you christie.
It's been a busy week... which is why I'm choosing to sit and home and post, and work on my marketing presentation, instead of going to work. Shame on me. I know those frat boys will just be crying, "where's that cool chick bartender?" They always schedule one too many people to work, so with me standing them up, they should have the perfect number. More tips for the other guys. I wonder if they'll ever call me to work again... ah who cares.

Took time out today for some much needed R&R. The meds I got from the doctor yesterday are helping out my cough. I wasn't sleepy at all but still laid around and read, and took a little nap. I think I needed that. And tonight will be early to bed, and up early tomorrow for my presentation. Wish me luck.

Late this afternoon I finalized my travel plans. Bought the plane ticket, travel insurance, and applied for a passport. More scared now that I'm holding a piece of paper that basically says, "yes, you're leaving the united states, and you're going to be gone for FIVE MONTHS." Ahhh! I am terrified. People don't understand what a chicken-shit I am about being far away from home. Gee maybe that's why I went to OU, because it's 20 minutes away. I will miss my mom, I will miss my guitar, I will miss my car... and I will miss my friends! I will be so lonely!

But then I'll just go run around Copenhagen and buy neat clothes. I can picture myself drinking coffee in a cafe, surrounded by gorgeous blonde-haired blue-eyes swedes, and hear myself sounding cultured, and having new friends... and then I smile. But then I think about what I'm leaving behind, and I get sad again. I hope people email me lots, that will help me feel connected to everyone. I ship out in 73 days. January 6th.

AND I'm finished with school on May 2nd.. and I don't return to the states until the 26th... so if anyone wants to come run around with me in Europe... pack your bags baby. I'll have about 3 weeks to travel. Where will I go? Hmm...

Monday, October 22, 2001

I've been accepted into the International Exchange Programs....
which means....
I'm going to Sweden!
hooray! and I told my mom, and she sounds HAPPY for me. that is a feat in and of itself.

otherwise been a great weekend. lots of plans that fell through but still satisfying and relaxing. I played some Contra... and went to a cocktail party... and experienced my first day of debauchery. I drank lots of alcoholic beverages and watching movies sprawled out on my sofa-bed. It was mucho cozy. And now the week begins again.
Let's see.. my Dad announced he's (finally) getting married on January 5th! I don't know that I'll be able to attend, but still good news none the less.
Oh gads I'm nervous. I'll have to move all my crap back to my mom's house, and store my car, and apply for a passport, and not see my family for 4 months. Eek! It will be scary.
but that's what makes it great.

Funny story:
Last weekend when I was in Tulsa, my roomate's boyfriend sleepwalked into my room. She woke up later and was quickly upset when she couldn't find him in the living room.. in the bathroom.. on the balcony.. in the parking lot. She came inside and I think must have heard him make a noise. So she peeked into my room and there he was, snoring away on my bed. So now there is lots of teasing about how silly he was being, because I wasn't even home.
and his response was, "well good thing she wasn't! and at least i put my boxers on before i went in there!"

snicker.

today my mom and i made a pilgrimage to the pumpkin patch by mcfarland church
i now have two glowing golden orbs just begging to be carved
i can see the funny faces in my mind!
anyone want to help?

and my mom is here, like i said, and that means it's time to go get a milkshake.
she exists in a constant frenzy of trying to "fatten me up"
calories calories calories!

tonight: galileo's. come and hear groovy music! i am leaving around 9:30 if anyone wants to tag along. i will stay probably until around 12.. early to bed tonight, up at 10am to sell to the poor schmucks at the game. it will be DVD mania!

love love to all

Thursday, October 18, 2001

email up to my ears... of which most of you will be receiving a copy very very soon.
but perfecting my sales pitch at least

odd dreams of being at avi's, eating pizza, with cats rolling around in puddles of ranch dressing, and the floor was all turbulent like a waterbed.
and for some reason i couldn't find my cell phone... i wonder who i wanted to call?

strange days are here again.

you're here
I'm pleased
I really dig your company
your style, your smile, your peace mentality
Lord have mercy on me
I was blind but now I see
What a king supposed to be
Baby I feel free come on and go with me

Let's take a long walk
around the park
after dark
Find a spot for us to spark
Conversation, verbal elation, stimulation
Share our situations, temptations, educations, relaxations, elevations
Maybe we can talk about Surah 31:18

Your background ain't squeaky clean
Shit sometimes we all gotta swim upstream
You ain't no saint
We all are sinners
but you put your good foot down to make your soul the winner
I respect that
Man you're so phat you're all that plus supreme
Then you're humble
man I'm numb yo with feelin'
I can feel everything that you bring.

A Long Walk, Jill Scott

oh my head is spinning. what a long day! how do people work the 9 to 5er on a consistent basis? I feel like I just ran 5 miles and rounded it off with a few sets of push-ups..
Studying abroad is so much work! I haven't even been accepted to the program yet but I have to start researching resident permits and visas and passports and blah blah blah. It will be worth it when I'm there, playing in the Swedish snow, and running around Copenhagen on the weekends. Traveling on trains, mmm I can't wait!
I spent an hour drafting emails to family/friends. Perfecting my DVD sales pitch. Sold one so far... go me go! Whoever sells the most gets a prize. It is a badass prize, I want to win so bad! So I'm sacrificing my dignity and begging all my relatives to buy things from me. Most of em are OU alumni so it isn't too painful. Don't even ask me how many people have said... "what's a DVD?"
how on earth can people not know what a DVD is! besides my mom that is. she is still alive and well in the 70's. anywho.
almost time for dinner at Brian's new pad. I am going to ask someone to bestow a shoulder rub upon me, I feel a headache coming on.

love to all!
last night i dreamt obscure dreams
of course i can now not remember a wink of them, they were washed away in the shower
and now my boiling water is calling for my egg... and my glass of OJ is making me thirsty.
off i go!

ring ring goes x-ie's phone
ring ring ring

my stream of consciousness is a train of unrelated thoughts.

what a lovely past few days it has been! fun times in good company. adventures to moore to see my old pal stephanie and munch on delicious baked apples. the edmond girl foursome was reunited for a few brief hours, and we took a silly picture. hopefully copies will be coming to me soon!
emails from ebay are tempting me to purchase a digital camera. sigh. i want one of those so bad! document my life and pilgrimages to sweden for all prosperity.
for 3 out of the past 4 nights i have been sustained on only 3 hours of sleep, but welcomely distracted, and still managing to stay wide awake despite the depravity.
last night i went to the mont and drank swirls with lacy and enjoyed myself, in all sincerity...
(oh shit i can't think of anything else that rhymes. so much for being clever!)
i played nintendo this afternoon with robert. and i can still kick ass at super mario brothers even after months of down time. i am the queen of nintendo! why is it that it is only the old school video games i have any profeciency at? put me in front of mario brothers, contra, ms. pacman and I will KICK YOUR ASS but then set me in front of one of those new fangled fancy PS2 games and i merely look blankly at the screen in frustration. I must just be old school at heart. that's why I might have to go get my really cool old school tattoo.
konami codes are in abundance.
man i think i might go call my dad, he's probably eating a cafeteria dinner deep in the mountains of california, but perhaps he'll also magically be in his dorm room and answering his phone.

all that crap made no sense, but i'm floatly lately. don't mind me. i'm having a wonderful time!

Monday, October 15, 2001

oh wow! last night and email from my old good friend tiffany in iowa. turns out that the class president and the head drum major from my senior year are getting engaged. how odd is that?!?! he's a senior cadet at the air force academy, and she's in college somewhere in Texas... small town wonders. Everyone is getting married!

Words from the fighting front...
my dad emailed me, containing comments relating to his call last week. amy told him i was studying at the library (and I really was! gasp!), and he said he would call me on my cell, but he didn't, because he figured... (this is too cute)... that I "was on a roll."
other things, all his friends out there in california are coping with respiratory afflictions. so this must be an inter-state cough that i've had for the past 2 weeks. hmm.
AND he said he missed me, and he looked forward to seeing me Dad's Day weekend.

warm fuzzies from my dad! I love my dad!

i'm off to see the wizard...

Sunday, October 14, 2001

a warm and bubbly bath awaits me as the perfect end to a perfect 24 hours.
(except for that part where i forgot how to play guitar, in the presence of my illustrious instructor)
warm wishes and sweet dreams

Saturday, October 13, 2001

awake i am! finally. 24 hours with no fun = a hungry krink. so stir-fry i will.
there's a fly on the window sill...

(enough dr. suess)

tulsa was fun! and my legs don't even hurt a smidge. sleep after hours of dancing is very satisfying, so satisfying, that you sleep for 10 hours. my goodness where did Satuday go?

little things you say and do
make me want to be with you
rave on it's a crazy feeling
i know it's a got me reeling
when you say i love you
rave on

the way you dance and hold me tight
they way you kiss and say good night
rave on it's a crazy feeling
i know it's a got me reeling
when you say i love you
rave on

rave on
rave on and tell me
tell me not to be lonely
tell me you love me only
rave on with me.

"Rave On" Sunny West, Bill Tilghman, Norman Petty. Recorded by Buddy Holly and the Crickets, January 1958.

eric reminded me of that one when I told him about the rave.

laundry... check. even though all my grey clothes are now pink. curses.
bank... check.
grocery list... check.
clean living room... almost there.
clean me... only once i clean everything else.

food for thought:
why is it that when you wash bras together they end up in a big tangled knot?
hmm.

tulsa tulsa tulsa!

oh sleepy headache
i don't want to be getting sick! i am not sick! i am only tired because i just spent 4 hours standing behind a table dealing blackjack. it's pretty fun... i wish they had casinos in Oklahoma. I would be a dealer, and take everyone's money. It's lots of fun!
and I met a nice guy, he was tending bar, that I had seen around town... he's french, he remembered me from once at the CD store. He asked, "are you into underground music?"
how cool is that!
if i ever see him again i'll take him to a pistol arrows show.

100 pages of marketing calling my name. this is the part where i just read the chapter summaries and take the chapter tests, and then go back through and read all the bold-faced definitions. i am such a slacker.
tulsa tomorrow! my escape! i count down the hours...
love love love to all
BAD BLOGGER!

it is not giving me the instant gratification I desire... but now I see a little post and publish button has reappeared, so here I go!
a good question was asked of me today: "any miracles?"
depends on what you call a miracle. I call a miracle that I managed to get to class in the torrential downpour, and a miracle that I sat down and read my marketing textbook for an hour solid...
and a real miracle that I figured out a neat little trick to the circle of fifths as I was piddling on my guitar. I think I might be getting a little better, maybe almost good.
almost.

that is a miracle!

and I'm not the only one that curtis sends funny links too... and emails containing phrases about liver. I wish I still had my cats.

my friends are miracles.
curtis is a miracle..
and robert is a miracle...
and christy is a miracle....
and aaron is a miracle.....
miracles miracles miracles!

rainy day! i was smart and wore a raincoat, and i was smart and wore my waterproof combat boots...
but i was stupid and wore jeans.
squish squish i went in class all morning long... but we got to watch lean on me, and that made up for the squishiness.

anyone want to buy a DVD?
my blog is getting horrendously boring and stupid. even i realize this, so don't be nice and tell me otherwise! not that anyone has... but i'm sure that's what you're thinking. that's what I'M definately thinking as i read back over the crap contained within.

so now i'm presented with an interesting problem... what can i talk about, that people will care to read? that's a tough one. my life isn't really that interesting. i quit my job last week, so now I have lots and lots of free time. All day on Tuesdays and Thursday to be exact, not to mention the weekends. I have yet to find anything amazing and fun to fill the empty spaces. So I sit around my apartment most of the time, and play my little guitar, and watch my little tv, and listen to my little cd's. See how boring that is? And it's not so surprising that I can't find things to talk about. Earlier I walked out to my car to look for something, and I ran into some guys I knew in the parking lot. I knew them, and they knew me, but they were drunk, so they forgot they knew me. And they're just fawning over me, making introductions, slobbery like, "hey girl! what'ch you doin?" and I say I'm just going to my car.. to look for something.. I wonder what it is about that situation that made me so interesting to them? They were very persistant in informing me that they would soon be back in their apartment and I "should come hang out!" They didn't even remember that they'd met me before, and yet they want to hang out with me? How superficial can you get? Or more like, how drunk? Alcohol is just instant-friendliness in a can, or bottle, whichever your pleasure. Maybe they just were excited to see breasts in a tank top. Who knows. And in bare feet too.. one of the guys informed me next time I should wear shoes. People tell me that a lot. But I like going bare foot... it makes it so interesting to wash your feet. You never know quite what you'll find...

That's the best I can come up with for now. So I'll go watch some more tv. I would much rather go to the bar... vodka tonics... maybe I would run into that guy I always run into when I go to the bar... we compare army stories. But instead I have to stay home and be sensible because there is class at 9:30 tomorrow morning. Even though in staying home I will STILL be awake until all hours, reading, or cleaning, or some equally menial task. At least after writing this I feel a bit more like myself, I was lost there for a few minutes. I wonder where I went?

Tuesday, October 09, 2001

studying should be done.... but blogging is much preferred.

last night angel eyes haunted my sleep. i found what i've been looking for but taken with a grain of salt, happiness and sadness all wrapped into one. and for what? patience is needed to see a means to an end. always something is in the way of what i think will make me happy. interferences abound, and they must be for some purpose. i don't understand why it never seems to work out for me. but in times past similar difficult situations have turned out for the best, something learned, and then time to move on. life has a million directions and a million possibilites but for now i just want one thing which i'm told i can't have, or i at least must wait for. but i want my instant gratification, i feel i've waited patiently for so long, so long before i was able to show how i felt.

but i'm glad i did, i remember and i'm happy. no one can take away my memories, my twenty hours of heaven.
no regrets!

enough obscurity. i passed my interview with flying colors! to Sweden I go? in two weeks, I will know.

Monday, October 08, 2001

i am a naughty girl. this morning my marketing professor gave a lecture on "ethics in marketing," and I read the paper for 45 minutes, and then I got up and left. I felt like the rudest person under the sun. The class is 3 hours long. So I came home and slept, because everyone keeps telling me that I'm sick. I don't feel sick, and I don't think I look sick, but I sound sick, so by process of deduction I know something is up. So I took a nap and had nightmares about my business project going all wrong and everyone coming and pointing fingers at me. "you'll never work research and development in this town again!" (shudder)

why am I coughing! There is nothing wrong with me, damnit!

Tomorrow afternoon is the personal interview portion of my study abroad application. Eek! What if they ask me to speak Swedish? What if they ask me how many people live in Sweden? What if they ask me where Sweden is?

it's in Europe somewhere, right?

foiled again!
and then an email appears to cheer me up:

Hello sweetness,

Is this Kate King, wanton sex goddess? Sorry, I just saw that Bridgett Jones commercial. Hmm... today I woke up, mowed the lawn, fixed an electrical problem in my car, wrapped up my stats project, wrote a marketing case, gave my cat the love and attention she needs, cooked Christy dinner, gave Christy the love and attention she needs, had a "chat" with my sister's current scum-bag boyfriend, and helped dad clean the gutters. Presently I'm drinking Mickeys, listening to Tricky, and writing to you. As the subject line states; I rule.
Shit, that means my ego's going to be deflated soon (possibly as soon as your reply). Check in with you later this week.

You Rule,
Curtis

hopefully he doesn't mind that I posted that, but I want the world to know as well as I know, Curtis rules. He may never know except now as I'm telling him how glad I was to get that email, just the thing I needed. Curtis rules!

seeing as i am the sole sentimental picture-hog of my immediate family... i took it upon myself to organize a large box of family photos that was gathering dust in the corner of a bedroom at my mom's. the photos are relics of my grandmother's house, which was recently emptied and sold after they stuck her in an "assisted living center." my aunt was nice enought to sort out all the ones with pictures of us... thus, the dusty box. my mom laughed when i packed it into my car to take back to Norman.
it's taken me upwards of 6 hours to sort them all out, and looking through them, I wonder what happened to us. to the past. we're all so smiling and happy in each photo. i guess that's because they're just little clips of what was really going on, and it's easy to piece them together and picture myself in this pristine sunshiney childhood. but i wasn't, and i like looking at them, but they also make me incredibly sad. they seem so fake. has anyone else ever had this feeling? it's like i'm looking at pictures of people I've never met. very strange...

so i'm going to go dance away my icky feelings at the deli, and hopefully by the time i'm done... there will still be a beer waiting for me at janke's...
two evenly matched defenses equal no one scoring a single damn point.
i'm watching the game in my bathrobe, alone, because then i can scream as loud as i like.
BOOOOOOOOOOMER SOONER!
and i'm also watching for section 24, row 12, seat 7, because they're the fuckers that stole my ticket. i have bad luck with OU/Texas.
sigh.

Friday, October 05, 2001

all sorts of plans that just kind of fell through, partly because people didn't call who said they would, but mostly because i didn't call people. hmm, just wasn't in the mood.
had a busy day and came home, watched a movie... fell asleep... woke up and contemplated going out but instead i rearranged my living room furniture. now i'm going to drink tea and watch tv. hmm nice change from dark smokey bars, and throwing up vodka tonics in strange bathrooms. ew.

my sweatpants are oh so comfy.

a picture of me!
click, and you'll see.
(but you must scroll to the bottom of the screen that appears... and there, on the right..
i will be.)

dancing queen

am i really as naive as i feel sometimes? i constantly find myself being wowed and amazed at the things people do. horrible things. fantastic things. amazing things. things i would never consider in a million years. to me, the fact that i can juggle school and a job and a hobby and a social life all at once amazes me. but then someone tells me some incredible story that just sets me into a downward spiral of self-consciousness.
why do those great things never happen to me?
everything i do i just feel silly or inadequate. or boring. that's the worst feeling of all. to be boring. to have people just brush you off as uninteresting, that seems to happen to me a lot. of course it's when i give up trying to put on my little show for the public. because i can be cute and endearing when i really want to be, it just gets so tiring sometimes. and then when i stop and just be myself, everyone seems to disappear.
when you need someone the most they're never there, and just when you get used to being without them, there they are again. begging for your attention.
oh the irony.
searching searching for interesting things to say and nothing is wanting to appear
ah ha, but then the phone rings! and i have heard all about the punk rock boys "viva las vegas" escapades. donny purchased a large sack of some sort to use in a new trick for his show. he's going to put on his straight jacket, and then hop in the sack, and then be locked in his big trunk. and perform magic feats of escapism and wow the crowds with his flexibility. he is houdini reincarnated.
he's complaining about how he's sore, and his back is bruised, because this new feat is very difficult. and i point out, "well, donny, all the shit you do is difficult. that's what makes it cool."

not everyone can juggle two machetes and an apple simultaneously, and take a bite out of the apple every time it flies past their mouth.
hmm.

when i was in rotc we used to have make tactical lists of how we would approach a given situation in combat. so here's my tactical list of the day.

1) finally finalized (oh the redundancy) the cloning of the master video with the production company in OKC, now only 4 (i hope, i hope) days until the guys in cali start production on DVD
2) finally finalized and turned in my study abroad application. personal interview next week with faculty, let's hope I can impress them with my irrevocable charm. i listed Lund first choice, Stockholm first alternate, and Leeuwarden second alternate.
3) had a bad headache and took a nap. woke up still asleep. haven't quite recovered, back to bed as soon as i finish things up...
4) drank tequila and watched Top Gun with Lacey (the highlight of my day)
5) drank beer and watched Top Gun with Lacey (a close second)
6) felt sorry for the white rat she's going to feed to her snakes tomorrow
7) giggled at nate and drew and their milk chugging escapades on the Wire
8) now home, email, posts, and the end of it all
SLEEP.

dave matthews is really really hard to play.

throughout Norman I am widely referred to as "the half-ass girl." this is an interesting title to hold, because it brings to mind funny analogies of my position as a servant of the people. if you count greeks and freshmen as people.
every afternoon I stare out the window and I see the sun streaming down. I watch the people walking to and fro outside my window. I am a fish in a fishbowl. Views on all sides but trapped. I see out and they see in, but without really looking. Just me swimming in and around my little underwater goldfish castle. I suspect through my distorted view of the world that nothing is quite as it seems. They occassionally tap on the glass, and tease me with the possibility of entertainment, but soon are gone again. They've gotten what they came for and I'm left all alone. So I just keep swimming, and blow little fish bubbles in my little fish bowl.

(But only for two more shifts! Thursday I am a half-ass troll no longer)

one fish, two fish, red fish, blue fish.
